Day 1: Hazyview

Meet your guide at OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg and enjoy a scenic 4 hour drive to a small town located just outside Kruger Park where you check in to our guest house in a gorgeous golf estate. That afternoon, you enjoy some time with African Elephants and learn about their plight on the African continent. In the evening, you will enjoy a good meal at a restaurant and cheers to the start of your African adventure

  • Private and comfortable guest house outside Kruger Park
  • Meals are not included

Days 2-3: Kruger National Park

Your morning begins with a 10 minute drive to the national park and a full mornings game drive stopping for bathroom breaks and to stretch your legs. Game drives will be conducted in a private vehicle with no other guests. Accommodation will be at one of the beautiful rest camps at a comfortable and private guest house within the park itself. A private chef will be there to welcome you with lunch. The next day you’ll enjoy a full morning and late afternoon drive looking for big game and hopefully, the big 5

Payment and Currency?

We accept all major credit cards and can organise EFT payments as well

It’s not required to bring thousands of dollars in cash into Africa. Facilities in Africa have improved dramatically in recent years, and it’s now possible to pay by Visa and Mastercard at most locations. Currency exchanges and ATMs are available at most airports

Best Time For Me to Go?

Summer

This is from December-March and the average daytime temperature peaks at around 34°C or 93°F. The area is very hot, often with amazing thunder showers! From mid-morning to mid-afternoon the animals often find cool spots making them difficult to spot. On the plus side, many antelope species have babies with them

Autumn

This is from March-June and the average daytime temperature peaks at around 29°C or 84°F. Rainfall is at its highest, vegetation is at its thickest and it is still hot, although cooler in the evenings. Antelope species are now rutting (mating rituals) for the breeding season which is fascinating to watch

Winter

This is June-September and the average daytime temperature peaks at around 25°C or 77°F. Great game viewing can be had all over southern Africa! Days are mild and pleasant and the evenings are chilly. The vegetation is less thick and the game viewing is at its best around the permanent water sources

Spring

This is September-December and the average daytime temperature peaks at around 29°C or 84°F. By far the best time to enjoy our Kruger safari tours. Many migrant birds return and the game congregate around the sweet grasses and permanent water

Travel?

You can choose to drive to and from the airport with your guide which is included in the rate or you can choose to fly to either Kruger Mpumalanga International Airport in Nelspruit, starting point for all the tours except the private safari where you can fly to Hoedspruit Airport. All tours, you can choose to fly to Johannesburg or Cape Town via Hoedspruit Airport at the end

This is perfect if you are not keen on the 4-7 hour drive from Johannesburg to the various starting points… Although, some have said their guides sparkling conversation skills and music choices are worth it (citation needed)

Health & Safety?

Vaccinations

In Africa, things change constantly. As such, so do rules and regulations. Make sure you ask your doctor about vaccinations before coming to Africa and make sure you specify which countries you will be visiting

Malaria

We have written a comprehensive blog post about malaria to keep you in the know. Please click Malaria Info for more info

Snakes

There are many snake species found in Africa, only 10 of which are regarded as deadly. You may be lucky enough to see them living their daily lives out in the bush… Please be aware though that these creatures are very scared of humans and if left alone, pose very little threat to you. If ever one gets too close for comfort, never lash out, that is what we are here for

Ticks

Ticks are often seen in the summer months hanging off grass stems looking for a tasty animal to latch onto. We do encounter them on walks occasionally and suggest you bring insect repellent and wear long pants and boots on our walks

Connectivity?

Most of the lodges that we stay at have got WiFi access, some may be slower than others (hey, it is the bush now)

If you would like to use a mobile phone while on safari and do not want to pay more than the actual safari itself on international roaming then we would suggest using a local sim card… They are very cheap and airtime and data is equally inexpensive. Your guide can take you to a local shop to buy one, but bear in mind:

  • Make sure you know the size of the sim card your phone uses
  • Make sure you have unlocked your phone as some phones do not allow other sim cards to be loaded

Food and Drink?

Food and drink play a huge role in any of our Kruger safari tours. On an African safari, they often find the lasting blend between old-world tradition and modern culinary influence. The sense of wilderness isn’t interrupted as you dine beneath the stars, a fire crackling and nocturnal animals calling and moving around. Menus are unique, blending local ingredients – sometimes those you won’t find served anywhere else in the world – with an international focus, perfectly delivered. Each lodge will also have a well stocked bar or we will purchase our own drinks, so in short, you will be well looked after

Hygiene?

Sometimes it’s hard to picture. You’re heading deep into the bush, a hundred miles from a tarred road or town. There’s going to be no running water. You’re going to be far from a borehole and just can’t imagine how you have a wash. And a shower? In such remote wilderness? Rest assured that each lodge has clean water and varied amenities depending on the accommodation, but all will have a hot shower / bath and a clean, flushing toilet
